Galatasaray and Türk Telekom signs $5m-deal to extend stadium naming rights

Turkish Süper Lig club Galatasaray and Türk Telekom has extended club stadium naming rights for the 2020-21 season.

Galatasaray confirmed last week the one-year extension for the Türk Telekom Arena in a deal worthed TL30m ($4.9m/€4.3m), according to Sports Business website.

In 2011, Türkish Telekom replaced Ali Sami Yen in the name of Galatasaray stadium, with the former state-owned telco reportedly paying between $110 and $115m for the naming rights and main shirt rights over 10 years from the 2009-10 season.

In 2018, Galatasaray tried to renew sponsorship deal with the telco, including the main shirt rights, for $150m over ten years.

However the deal was declined by Türk Telekom, which subsequently came off the club’s shirt front as a sponsor in 2019-20, when it was replaced by pizza brand Terra Pizza.

According to local press, the deal with the Terra Pizza is worth TL18m ($3m), plus value added tax, for the 2019-20 season and TL20m ($3.3m), plus value added tax, for the 2020-21 season.
